Description   This beautiful pendant was hand carved out of Argillite stone. The eyes of the fish are inlaid abalone shell along with the circles running down the back of the fish. The small carving was then strung onto a sturdy leather necklace that is adjustable. The fish pendant is approximately 1.5 inches. Haida artist Amye Edgars is the youngest argillite carver and one of only two female carvers. Amye learned this traditional Haida Gwai art from her father. Argillite carving is a long-established skill to the Haida Gwai people, as they are the only people that are aloud by law to gather the stone. Today, museums are filled with priceless pieces providing a tour of Haida history, while some modern sculptors can command five-figure prices for top-of-the-line artwork.
