Description   This is a pair of Halibut earrings was hand carved out of Argillite stone. The eyes of the halibut are inlaid abalone shell. The small carvings were then mounted on sterling silver earring hooks. Each Halibut is approximately one inch. Haida artist Amye Edgars is the youngest argillite carver and one of only two female carvers. Amye learned this traditional Haida Gwai art from her father. Argillite carving is a long-established skill to the Haida Gwai people, as they are the only people that are aloud by law to gather the stone. Today, museums are filled with priceless pieces providing a tour of Haida history, while some modern sculptors can command five-figure prices for top-of-the-line artwork.
